A Big "Thank You" To My Readers!

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to all my readers who take the time to comment and express their opinions. You may disagree with me, but I love that you do. It brings up an enticing discussion and helps inform me of another point of view, or another way of looking at the issue at hand. Even if you do agree with me and you just share your thoughts in agreement to mine, I love to hear from you and read what you have to say. So thank you for the time you take to add your words to my blog. :)

  • Why Do I Put Quotes on "Mormons" ?

The word "Mormon" is an inaccurate nickname for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (or The Church of Jesus Christ). If you are referring to someone from the Church, that person may appropriately be called a Latter-day Saint or LDS. The term “Saint” means “member.”

It was given to the "Mormons" in the early years of the Church because of The Book of Mormon. Calling a Latter-day Saint a "Mormon" is tantamount to calling a Jew a "Moses". It's the name of a man, and it doesn't make any sense. It's like calling any other Christian a "Peter". Mormon was a prophet, not a book, and not a religion. Just as Moses was a prophet and not a religion. It was easy for non-"Mormons" to remember the name "Mormon" and unfortunately is the dominant nickname/abbreviation for the Church today.

The prophet Mormon abridged the books of several other ancient American Christian prophets, and because it was his abridgment, or his book, it is called The Book of Mormon.

One final note: it should be remembered that the nickname was originally applied to Latter-day Saints as a derogatory term of disrespect and prejudice. In my humble opinion when you call me "Mormon" you join the ranks of those who first persecuted and killed those of my faith in the past. You join the ranks of those who today display their ignorance in calling their black brothers "niggers".

If you would please, as often as you can remember - please refer to the "Mormon" Church as either The Church of Jesus Christ or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. If you are referring to someone from the Church, that person may appropriately be called a Latter-day Saint or LDS.

*The official Church Styleguide for the Press concerning the use of the word "Mormon"

    THE: The one and only
CHURCH: The kingdom of God on earth set up to help all people attain exaltation
    OF: The Church belongs to
    JESUS: The Savior
CHRIST: The Anointed One, or the Messiah
OF LATTER-DAY: This dispensation is the latter days, the dispensation of the fullness of times. These are the days just prior to the time when the Savior will come the second time to the earth.
SAINTS: Saints are faithful members of the Church who sanctify themselves by the way they strive to live the teachings of the gospel. The word Saint is related in meaning to the word Sanctify.

Fit Day!

FitDay.com What a life saver! I came across a website that helps you keep track of eating goals, nutritional goals, fitness goals and weight goals ALL-IN-ONE!

www.FitDay.com

You can use the software online for free, or purchase it with added features. The online software works well enough for me since I’ve been through the whole weight-loss journey several times before and what the added features are on the purchased software version is more like a personal trainer added. I’ll be OK without one. All I need is an all-in-one place where I can keep track of my foods, the nutrition and weight. FitDay.com HAS it all plus!!! The chart reports are absolutely amazing, the fact that I can search for food with the Nutritional label information already added or add custom food myself so all I have to do is say I had 1 serving of ‘this’ and 2 servings of ‘that’ and it adds all the calories, nutrition facts all together for me! I can add a daily calorie goal, a long/short-term weight goal and it even reports your daily activity so you can at the end of the day/week run a report on how many calories intake vs. burned through activity, you can generate a nutrition report daily/weekly and a weight-loss report. You can even generate monthly reports!

They also have a journal area where you can vent or just report on your weight-loss journey.

But anyways, I am just so excited about this website. It calculates how much weight you need to lose weekly to reach your goal- whatever it may be. Clark will reach his goal by August and I will reach mine by December. So here is my report everybody. It’s embarrassing, but in order for me to reach my goal I just need to have that feeling that people are depending on me or else (for me) it’s too easy to get lazy and not think about it. I need to think about it all the time. So, also I said before I wasn’t going to weigh myself, but I realized that I need to in order to reach my goal in the time that I need to for my health’s sake.

Weight Goal Stats

Current Weight
Your weight is 175 lb as of 05/05/2008.

Weight Goal
Your goal is to weigh 125 lb by 12/01/2008

Goal Progress
You are currently 50 lb above the target weight.

The deadline for your goal is 210 days (30 weeks, 0 days) away.

To meet your goal you need to lose about 1.67 lb per week.

So there you go everybody, wish me luck! Check out the website, you’ll LOVE it if your goal is to lose weight, and also just to maintain good nutrition and your current weight. This is a site I think I’ll use for a lifetime. :)

    Very brave post rebecca.

If you need any advice or even recipes I’d be happy to e-mail them to you. I’ve struggled with wieght my entire life and it wasn’t until the last couple of years that I’ve slowly been able to start getting it off. Although I’ve still got 40-50 lbs to go, I’ve managed to loose 40/50 lbs. A couple of things I would recommend which is what I did:

    - No soda, juice (only not from concentrate kind).
    - Fix the emotional reasons behind your weight. The outer will follow. This is the only sure fire way to keep the weight off forever.
    - I wouldn’t focus on the weight loss (BMI), but your waist size–its a stronger indication of health. (See Dr Oz’s, You on a Diet)
    - Take one day at a time and be good/kind to yourself. Write positive affirmations in a daily gratitude journal. Every time you pass a mirror, tell yourself that ‘you kick ass’. :) - Switch your focus to getting healthy, not the fact that you are unhappy with your waist size.
    - Make meal times sacred. Have a love/passion for healthy food and cooking (this karma will go to your meals). Pick food that has higher nutritional density (NO PROCESSED, organic if possible) . Take your time during meals giving ’space’/stillness to those moments. Set nice plates out when you can and ALWAYS eat meals at a table w/the T.V. off. Feel gratitude in every bite.

Anyway, sending loads of encouragement your way. :) Let me know if I can be of help.

    Christine
